Time to Face the Music

Face the Music

Live Band Karaoke

Live Band Karaoke is the latest and coolest form of entertainment. It takes all the best features of karaoke and fuses them with live music. Any audience member has the opportunity to get up and sing a song-- just like karaoke. We provide the backing music and lyrics-- just like karaoke. The difference is the backing music is performed by live musicians right behind the singer. The singer and the audience feel the music more which leads to a more exciting performance.

Face the Music (aka LowBrau) have been performing eclectic mixes of music at their live shows for years. We've even invited audience members up to sing songs with us, so it's a natural fit to offer the opportunity for anyone who walks in the door to get onstage with us. The members of the band are proficient musicians who can seamlessly transition from one style of music to another. They also know how to rock, making this live band karaoke experience way more fun than other "hokey" bands that let people sing with them.

As an audience member, you will experience a show that is way more intense that a typical karaoke night. Even if you dislike karaoke, this experience is more like being at a live concert than "Idol Rejects" night at the local lounge. The music is good even if every singer isn't destined to be the next big thing. And, while we do like to kick out the jams, we try our best to keep the volume at a reasonable level so that everyone can have a great time but no one goes home with a pounding headache.

So, what do you think?
Are you ready to rock harder that you ever have before?
Are you ready to Face the Music?

Q & A

What instruments are in the band?
We have live guitar/keyboard, bass, and drums (no drum machine here).

What do the arrangements sound like?
We learn each song as it is recorded by the artist. There can be some give-and-take in live situations where the band follows the singer, but we prefer to keep to a standard version. The two exceptions to this are: extended jam-like solos are usually edited way down (people want to get up and sing, not listen to 12 minutes of Freebird) and fade-out endings are altered to fit the live format.

How do you present the lyrics?
We have painstakingly assembled written-out lyrics sheets that include cues in the music. Music breaks and solos are listed along with the approximate amount of time each break lasts. You'll have the lyrics in front of you at all times. Please download the following examples if you're curious about what the lyric sheets look like.
Meredith Brooks - Bitch
The Darkness - I Believe in a Thing Called Love
Barenaked Ladies - It's All Been Done

What if I'm unsure how the song goes?
Since we don't have the capability to present the lyrics streaming along on a tv set, it's best for you to choose songs you know very well. We understand that there are times people "blank out" when they get onstage in front of people, however. If you get stuck we will sing along to help you out. As soon as you're back on track, we get out of the way. Our purpose as the band is to put you in the spotlight, not hog it away from the singer.

Can I sing more than one song?
It depends on the number of participating singers, but if you arrive at the beginning of the show and stick around, you will almost always be able to sing multiple songs. We always keep things fair by following a rotation. That means that each singer that signs-up gets one opportunity to perform. We keep track of the order of singers, and once everyone has gotten onstage, we go back to the top of the list. Any singers that arrive later in the evening will be slotted-in at appropriate times. No one can bargain more songs than their fare share, so no complaining or bribing, please. (Actually, you can buy us drinks and slip us cash all night long if you want, but it will never influence the order of singers!)
